Great Wall Motors (GWM) has announced that the heavily updated Tank 700 will begin pre-sales on March 30, 2026. The new lineup will include two powertrains: the classic Hi4-T and the all-new Hi4-Z, which brings a sportier design, upgraded interior tech, and a massive 59kWh battery.

Exterior: An Aggressive New Stance

The new Tank 700 Hi4-Z embraces a much more aggressive, sport-oriented aesthetic compared to the standard model. It features a new honeycomb front grille with a wider opening, hood ventilation vents, and a dramatically styled front bumper. A roof-mounted LiDAR unit signals serious autonomous driving capabilities.

Dimensions remain massive: 5,105mm long, 2,061mm wide, and 1,985mm tall, with a 3,000mm wheelbase. At the rear, you will find a prominent roof spoiler, aerodynamic bumper vents, and the signature side-hinged tailgate with a spare tire carrier.

Interior: Mechanical Luxury and Rear Entertainment

Inside, the Tank 700 blends rugged mechanical styling with high-end luxury. The cabin features a new floating square infotainment screen, redesigned center console buttons that emphasize a “tactile mechanical” feel, and dual-tone thick leather seats.

The biggest interior upgrade is for rear passengers: the addition of a fold-down ceiling entertainment screen, a feature previously reserved for luxury MPVs like the Li Auto L9. Combined with a panoramic sunroof and second-row privacy curtains, the rear cabin is now executive-class.

Powertrain: 2.0T PHEV with 190km Pure EV Range

The new Hi4-Z version uses a 2.0T plug-in hybrid system with the engine delivering 185kW. The standout feature is the massive 59.05kWh ternary lithium battery, which provides an impressive 190km of pure electric range (WLTC). This means most daily commutes can be done entirely on electricity.

For towing enthusiasts, it is officially certified to tow up to 2,500kg (with brakes).

The Hi4-T version continues with the beastly 3.0T V6 PHEV system, outputting 385kW and 800N·m of torque.

Why It Matters

The GWM Tank 700 is China’s answer to the Mercedes G-Class and Toyota Land Cruiser. By adding a massive 59kWh battery for 190km of EV range and luxury rear-seat entertainment, GWM is proving that hardcore off-roaders can double as ultra-efficient luxury family haulers in the city.
