Chery’s premium electric brand Avatr has confirmed that the updated Avatr 12 will officially launch on April 8, 2026, with 7 variants pre-priced at ¥299,900–¥439,900 (approx. $41,400–$60,700 USD). The same event will also see the Avatr 06T Touring open pre-orders. The Avatr 12’s headline upgrades: Huawei’s latest dual-path LiDAR, ADS 4 autonomous driving, and the HarmonySpace 5 MoLA large language model in-cabin AI.

Exterior: Long, Low, Black — Pure Presence

The Avatr 12 in gloss piano black is a masterclass in restrained automotive design. There is almost no surface decoration — just pure, flowing sheet metal from nose to tail. The silhouette is fastback-coupe with a continuous chrome strip running the full length of the greenhouse, floating the roofline visually above the body. At the C-pillar, a discreet diamond “Royal Edition” badge marks the premium variant.

The multi-spoke turbine alloy wheels in gloss black with red brake calipers are a perfect contrast to the jet-black body. The overall effect is closer to a Porsche Taycan or Lucid Air than anything else currently available in this price range.

Interior: Royal Edition — Red and White That Stops Traffic

Open the door and the contrast is breathtaking. The Royal Edition “Crimson” interior pairs deep scarlet red leather on the dashboard wrap, door panels, steering wheel, headliner, and seat bolsters with diamond-quilted pearl white Nappa leather on the seat faces and center console surfaces. This two-tone combination is one of the most dramatic interior designs in any production car globally.

The steering wheel is a flat-bottom unit fully wrapped in crimson red leather with the Avatr diamond badge in polished silver at center. Two DMS cameras flank the steering column for driver monitoring.

Dual-Screen Huawei Cockpit

The technology centerpiece is the dual-screen Huawei HarmonyOS dashboard: a full-width panoramic status bar spanning the entire dashboard top edge, with a large portrait-orientation central touchscreen below it. Both screens are wrapped in the same scarlet red leather bezel, creating a cohesive premium feel. A digital rearview mirror replaces the traditional mirror above.

Huawei ADS 4 + HarmonySpace 5 MoLA

The 2026 Avatr 12 receives Huawei’s latest generation dual-path imaging LiDAR + Qiankun ADS 4 autonomous driving system. This is the same hardware-software stack now found across the entire Huawei Harmony Intelligent Mobility ecosystem. The cabin runs HarmonySpace 5 with MoLA large language model — an in-car AI that understands natural language, learns driver preferences over time, and integrates deeply with Huawei’s device ecosystem.

Powertrain: 735km BEV or EREV

Pure Electric (BEV):

  • Rear-drive dual motor: 2×251kW, CLTC range 735km or 670km
  • AWD: adds 210kW front motor, range 605km CLTC
  • Upgraded Taiháng Smart Control 2.0 for improved ride and handling

Extended Range (EREV):

  • Rear dual-motor: 2×200kW
  • Pure EV range: 261km CLTC

Also Coming: Avatr 06T Touring Wagon

The same April 8 event will open pre-orders for the Avatr 06T — a shooting brake / touring wagon variant of the 06 sedan. Dimensions: 4,940×1,960×1,475mm, wheelbase 2,940mm. BEV options include dual-rear-motor or tri-motor AWD (210kW front + 2×251kW rear), with 89.33kWh battery offering up to 741km CLTC range. EREV option: 1.5T + 330km EV range.

Why It Matters

The Avatr 12 Royal Edition is a direct assault on the Porsche Taycan ($90,000+) and BMW i5 ($70,000+) market. At $41,400 USD base, it offers Huawei ADS 4 LiDAR autonomy, 735km BEV range, and an interior that — based purely on visual impact — rivals anything from Stuttgart or Munich. Chinese premium EVs are no longer catching up. They are setting the pace.
