GWM has officially opened pre-sales for the updated Tank 700 Hi4-Z and Hi4-T. Three variants are available: Hi4-Z at ¥438,000 and ¥478,000 (approx. $60,500 and $66,000 USD), and the range-topping Hi4-T at ¥518,000 (approx. $71,500 USD). The updated Tank 700 arrives with rotating laser headlights containing 260 LED points, a 27-sensor LiDAR ADAS suite, and the most powerful audio system in any Chinese SUV — all wrapped in a body that directly challenges the Jeep Wrangler, Land Rover Defender, and Toyota Land Cruiser Prado.

Exterior: “Qilin” Design with Rotating Laser Headlights

The 2026 Tank 700 draws design inspiration from the “Qilin” (麒麟) — a mythical Chinese creature symbolizing power and good fortune. The most dramatic new feature is the “Ruiqi Eyes” mechanical rotating laser headlights: 260 individual LED pearls illuminate as mechanical iris-like blades rotate open, with a variable laser high-beam reaching a maximum distance of 260 meters. It is the most theatrical headlight design in any production vehicle today.

The body maintains the Tank’s signature near-1:1 height-to-width ratio with a vertical greenhouse, wide fender flares, vented hood, front lip spoiler, and the new “Xiangling Flame Tail” floating rear spoiler. At 5,105mm long, 2,061mm wide, and 1,985mm tall with a 3,000mm wheelbase, this is an enormous vehicle by any measure. Exclusive “Dunhuang Teal” joins Jade Green, Basalt Black, and Mountain Grey in the color palette.

Interior: Cognac Brown Leather Everywhere

The interior is a warm, cognac brown leather environment — every surface from the full-width dashboard to the door panels, headliner, and all seven seats wrapped in premium Nappa leather. The clean horizontal dashboard layout features a 12.3-inch 2K instrument cluster + 15.6-inch 2.5K center touchscreen running Coffee OS, with aerospace-grade real aluminum trim on the center console rail.

Rear passengers get even more luxury: a 17.3-inch 3K ceiling-mounted entertainment screen plus a 7-inch rear armrest control screen. Front seats offer 20-way electric adjustment, rear seats recline to 141° infinitely. Every seat includes ventilation, heating, and 10-point 3-layer air bag massage.

Front seats fold completely flat to 180° — unlocking multiple configurations including full flat-bed rest, in-car cinema, and business meeting mode. The 5D cinema mode synchronizes seat massage, audio, ambient lighting, and climate control to movie content. A 5.4-liter smart refrigerator with 4-stage temperature control (-6°C to 50°C) is standard.

The Coffee AI Sound system features 21 speakers, 2,440W peak power, 7.1.4 Dolby Atmos layout — the most powerful audio system in any Chinese SUV currently on sale.

ADAS: 27 Sensors + LiDAR + VLA Large Model

Both Hi4-Z and Hi4-T are equipped with 27 intelligent sensors including LiDAR. The system is powered by a VLA (Vision-Language-Action) large AI model, enabling full-scenario NOA (Navigate on Autopilot) for both highway and urban environments — a first for a hardcore off-road SUV platform.

Powertrain: Hi4-Z vs Hi4-T

Tank 700 Hi4-Z (Pan-Off-Road PHEV):

  • 2.0T engine (185kW) + PHEV system
  • Battery: 59.05kWh NMC
  • WLTC pure EV range: 190km
  • WLTC combined range: 1,191km
  • Towing capacity: 750kg (unbraked) / 2,500kg (braked)

Tank 700 Hi4-T (Hardcore Off-Road PHEV):

  • 3.0T V6 + PHEV system
  • Combined power: 385kW, 800N·m torque
  • WLTC pure EV range: 90km
  • Non-decoupled 4WD (true mechanical AWD for extreme terrain)

Why It Matters: Jeep Wrangler and Defender Have a Real Problem

A Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon costs $60,000+ in the US, has no LiDAR, no massage seats, no 21-speaker audio, no 1,191km range, and no 180° flat-bed front seats. A Land Rover Defender 130 starts at $80,000+ with similar limitations. The Tank 700 Hi4-Z at $60,500 USD is not just competitive with these icons — it comprehensively outspecifies them in every comfort and technology dimension, while matching or exceeding their off-road credentials. This is the Chinese off-road SUV that the global market should fear most.
