Mercedes-AMG appears to be preparing a much hotter version of the upcoming electric GLA. Autohome reports that overseas spy photos show a camouflaged prototype that may use three axial-flux motors and produce more than 500 horsepower, putting the small SUV into a very different performance bracket from a mainstream compact EV.

The prototype wears 21-inch black multi-spoke wheels, staggered 255/35 ZR21 and 265/35 ZR21 tires, red multi-piston front calipers and AMG-style visual cues. Those details matter because performance EVs often need far more brake, tire and cooling capacity than their quiet exterior proportions suggest.
What changed
The cabin photos point to Mercedes-Benz’s latest three-spoke steering wheel, sport seats with more aggressive bolstering and a likely wide-screen dashboard layout. Autohome also notes that the new GLA family is expected to use star-themed lighting elements at both ends.
The reported tri-motor layout would give AMG another tool beyond simple straight-line acceleration: torque can be actively shifted across axles and sides of the car, which should help the vehicle feel sharper in corners if Mercedes tunes the software well.
EV InnoTech take
For EV buyers, the key point is that compact premium crossovers are moving beyond efficiency alone. The electric GLA AMG could become a technology showcase for Mercedes’smaller EV platform, especially if the battery can deliver repeated high-power output without heavy thermal limits.
