BYD is preparing to bring its plug-in hybrid pickup strategy back to China. Autohome reports that the Fang Cheng Bao Shark has appeared in MIIT filing information, matching the BYD SHARK that has already launched overseas.
The pickup is based on the Fang Cheng Bao DMO platform and shares its foundation with the Bao 5. It measures 5,457 mm long, 1,971 mm wide and 1,925 mm tall, with a 3,260 mm wheelbase and a double-cab five-seat layout.
Power comes from a 1.5T plug-in hybrid system, with the gasoline engine rated at 143 kW and front and rear motors rated at 170 kW and 150 kW. The filing also lists optional towing equipment.
Why it matters
China’s pickup market is still smaller and more regulated than SUV segments, but electrified pickups let BYD export a lifestyle image while testing domestic demand for cleaner utility vehicles.
The Shark filing suggests BYD is ready to see whether its global plug-in hybrid pickup can also work at home under the Fang Cheng Bao badge.
