Audi is preparing to turn the next RS Q5 into a high-output plug-in hybrid SUV. Autohome reports that the new Audi RS Q5 has been spotted testing in the Alps ahead of an expected late-2027 launch.
The prototype shows wider-track test hardware, aggressive cooling openings, large brake discs and temporary exhaust hardware while Audi finalizes the performance bodywork.
The powertrain is expected to pair a 2.9T twin-turbo V6 with an electric motor, producing about 640 hp with up to 100 km of pure-electric range, plus quattro all-wheel drive.
Why it matters
Performance SUVs are moving toward plug-in systems because electrification can add both torque and regulatory flexibility. The challenge is keeping RS response and chassis feel intact.
The RS Q5 should show how Audi plans to keep its compact performance SUV relevant as electrification becomes unavoidable.
