BMW is preparing a layered performance strategy for the new X5 family. Autohome reports that the next BMW X5 M60 is planned for 2027 with a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8, while a full X5 M plug-in hybrid is also expected.

The broader X5 lineup will include combustion, battery-electric and plug-in hybrid versions, with overseas sales for the new generation beginning in late 2026 and electrified versions following in early 2027.

The X5 M plug-in hybrid is expected to combine V8 power with electric assistance for a total output around 535 kW, while the new generation adopts BMW’s panoramic iDrive interface.
