BYD says the Tang EV will reach its 10,000th delivery on July 23, only a little more than a month after the model went on sale on June 17. The announcement came from Lu Tian, BYD’s Dynasty Network sales chief, who shared the milestone on social media, according to Yiche.
The speed of the handover matters because Tang EV is not a small-volume halo product. On BYD’s official product page, the model is described as a full-size flash-charging flagship SUV. The page also presents the vehicle as a seven-seat family SUV, which puts it in a very different lane from the company’s smaller city EVs and compact crossovers.
What BYD disclosed at launch
Yiche’s report says Tang EV launched in China on June 17 with four trims priced from RMB 239,900 to RMB 309,900. The same report lists dimensions of 5,263 mm or 5,302 mm in length, 1,999 mm in width and 1,790 mm in height, with a 3,130 mm wheelbase.
Those numbers place the model firmly in the large-SUV category. In practice, that means BYD is not just selling a range-extended commuter or a compact EV here; it is aiming Tang EV at buyers who want a sizeable, high-equipment family vehicle with electric-only branding and a premium feature set.
Key hardware and cabin highlights
- Roof-mounted lidar and BYD’s Tian Shen Zhi Yan 5.0 driver-assistance system
- 2+2+3 seating layout
- Dual zero-gravity front seats and second-row zero-pressure seats
- 3nm cockpit chip and a 7.1.4-channel Devialet audio system
- Single-motor and dual-motor versions, with the AWD model quoted at 3.9 seconds from 0 to 100 km/h
- BYD’s second-generation Blade battery, fast-charging support, Yun Nian-A air suspension, road preview, crab-walk mode and rear-wheel steering
BYD’s official page and the launch report point to the same basic product logic: this is a large family SUV that tries to combine a premium cabin, quick charging and advanced driver assistance. That positioning also helps explain why BYD is treating the Tang EV as a flagship rather than a niche EV experiment.
One caveat is worth keeping in mind. The 10,000-delivery figure is a handover milestone, not a full order audit. BYD has not published a detailed breakdown of deposits, wholesale shipments or regional deliveries in the material reviewed here. Even so, the pace is notable for a newly launched large SUV and suggests the model has moved quickly from launch coverage into real customer deliveries.
For Chinese EV watchers, Tang EV is another reminder that BYD is still expanding the top end of its Dynasty lineup while keeping the family-SUV formula intact. The model’s size, seven-seat layout and equipment list make it a useful barometer for how much appetite there is in China for bigger battery-electric family vehicles with fast-charging branding.
